What wonderful person to have gone before us to prepare our crossing. Bill had such compassion for his fellow sufferers that God surely felt a need to have him seated ahead of us . God Bless you all for raising a great man.

I could see in your gaze when I met you, that your struggle had been long and arduous. Yet the mention of helping others with COPD brought such sparkle to your eyes and light to your face, that it was apparent to even the poorly attentive that you derived great energy, satisfaction and delight at the prospect of being able to help others! You made it your calling. You made it your joyous work. And you did it well! You gave to others at the expense of your own interest. You were selfless, nearly to a fault.

May those you leave behind fill the large shoes you leave behind. May you rest gently in the arms of God. You have earned well, your long-awaited rest. Thanks, Bill! Thanks for everything you did, everyone you touched and the countless folks you helped!

Jackie and Family,
May your great loss be eased by knowing that Bill has helped so many people.

His was the first Web site I came across when diagnosed. His words were inspiring and gave me courage to live with this disease.

I know you are looking down on all of the people you have helped through your web pages. When I found you, it was the first time I knew there were others like me with the same questions. Thanks for your spirit.

Dear Jackie: Bill was one of a kind and you were both the dearest neighbors we ever will have. I just read the COPD International webpage and am overwhelmed with pride for all Bill accomplished. We love you both.

I know that the rest of the COPD world agrees that we have lost a true Icon in the area of patient advocacy. Bill did more than any one I know to further the education and support in patients taking care of themselves. I never met him personally but talked on line with him many times and discussed ideas and programs. Bill was a master at teaching and understanding. He left not knowing what legacy he left behind because he refused to acknowledge his credit that he deserved. He was a good friend and one of the standards that each one of us should hold ourselves to. If can all be Bill Hordens then the COPD problems will be gone. To bad he was only one of a kind. However, I am glad that he chose to do what he did.

The loss of my dear friend has hit me hard in the pit of my stomach. I know he is in a better place, but I grieve for the loss of this great man. He reached out with all his warmth, courage and inspiration to COPD people everywhere. And his words and kindness will live on as a torch of advocacy for us all. Bill, you will never be forgotten. I'm sending my love to you and to Jackie, as I have done so many times before. Peace be with you.
