The Lahey Clinic’s COPD Center six-week seminar series is designed to educate and inform the public about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Each session will include two topics with lecturers drawn from various departments at Lahey Clinic, with the view that COPD is a complex disease that is best managed by experts from a variety of disciplines.
The lectures are free to the public, and all patients, families and caregivers are encouraged to attend.

Breathe New Hampshire’s Lung Health Support group will be holding its first meeting from 1:00pm – 3:00 pm on Wednesday September 21, 2011 in Manchester NH
The group’s goal is to provide a patient oriented local support and educational resource for people with chronic lung disease, as well as for their family members, friends and caregivers. Although the primary disease is COPD, all patients with any type of lung disease are encouraged to join, since there are so many common issues with the various chronic lung diseases.

New study suggests a 1 in 4 Lifetime Risk of Developing COPD
In a special European Respiratory Society issue of The Lancet, the results of a study of approximately 13 million people suggest that for people over 35, 27.6% (greater than one in four) was the overall projected lifetime risk of being diagnosed with COPD by a physician.
The study, conducted by the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences, Toronto, Ontario, Canada used population based health information for the entire population of Ontario. It studied all people (aged 35 to 80) who were not diagnosed with COPD in 1996, following them for up to 14 years. 579,466 cases of COPD were diagnosed. Read More…

Maximum Daily Dose for Tylenol Lowered
McNeil Consumer Healthcare announced it is lowering the maximum daily dose instructions for Extra Strength Tylenol to six pills a day (3,000 mg) to reduce the risk of acetaminophen overdose.
The new dosing instructions will appear on extra-strength Tylenol product packages in the U.S. beginning in the fall of 2011.
